Dr. Rick Briggs, Assistant Superintendent

Dr. Frederick L. Briggs has been the school system's Chief Academic Officer since 2017Briggs, a graduate of Parkside High School and Salisbury University, joined Wicomico County Public Schools as an educator in 1999. He taught math for five years at Wicomico High School, then served a year as dean of students and four years as an assistant principal. He was promoted to principal in 2005, serving first at Bennett Middle School for two years, then at Mardela Middle and High School for five years before moving to James M. Bennett High School for a year as principal.

Dr. Briggs earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a Master of Education degree in School Administration in 2005, and his Doctorate in Education in Literacy Studies in 2018 – all from Salisbury University. He lives in Salisbury with his wife Kristen, a WCPS teacher. Their two children have attended Wicomico County Public Schools, with one a 2024 graduate and one in high school.
