Winter is coming! As we move further into November, our Winter Sports teams begin prepping for their first competitions of the year. This short week brings a pair of scrimmages for our Boys and Girls Basketball teams! #ONETRIBE

Reminder for students and families: Tuesday, Nov. 7 is the last day of the 1st marking term. Students will be dismissed 3 hours early. Report cards will come out on Nov. 14.

Families and staff: Reminder that Daylight Saving Time ends early on Sunday morning. Remember to set those clocks back an hour so you'll be on time for Sunday activities and school on Monday.

It’s officially November, which means that our winter sports season is just around the corner! As our fall season enters the playoff season, our winter sports coaches begin to prepare for successful seasons. The official kick-off date for winter sports is Wednesday, November 15th, with competition beginning on Tuesday, December 5th. During the Winter Sports season, the WiHi Athletic Department offers Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Boys & Girls Indoor Track, Boys & Girls Wrestling, Cheerleading, and Unified Strength & Conditioning. To be eligible to tryout for a winter sport, students must meet the following requirements: • Be academically eligible with a minimum 2.0 GPA from their 1st marking term report card (1st term ends on November 7th). • Have an active physical on file, dated after June 1st 2023. Our October VP Shoes Student-Athletes of the Month are Deborah Laguerre and Torez Purnell! Deborah represents our Girls Soccer team and was a standout athlete for the Tribe. Coach McQuown had the following to say about Deb, "She puts the STUDENT is student-athlete! Honor-roll all the time and plays three sports. Even though she is only a sophomore, she has become a natural leader of the girls' team. Deb is always willing to help a team member learn and grow as well as being humble enough to take advice and grow as an athlete. She is an amazing young woman; we are lucky to have her here at WiHi! Torez is a sophomore Cross Country runner. Coach Schtierman submitted the following nomination for Torez, "It is with great pleasure that I nominate Torez Purnell for the October Student -Athlete of the Month. He has been fully committed from the beginning of the summer and has improved his times weekly. He has been a pleasure to work with. Thank you to VP Shoes for supporting our Student-Athlete of the Month program. Both Deborah and Torez were awarded for their hard work with $30 gift certificates to VP Shoes! #ONETRIBE

It's playoff time!!! Our #ONETRIBE Cross Country, Volleyball, and Football student-athletes will compete this week to try to extend their seasons. Football and Volleyball opponents, times, and locations will be communicated once MPSSAA seedings have been released. Go Tribe!

GAMEDAY! Join us in welcoming James M. Bennett High school for the final regular season game of the year! For the joint Senior Night, gates will open at 4:45PM. JMB will recognize their Senior football players and cheerleaders starting at 5:05PM. WiHi will recognize their Senior football players and cheerleaders immediately after. Kick-off is set for 6:00PM. Additionally, if you are planning on attending the game, be sure to wear your PINK in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. If brought, you will be asked to leave it in the car or leave the game. • Noisemakers are not permitted in the stadium and may be confiscated. • No outside food or drink is allowed in the stadium. Concessions will be available. • Re-entry is not permissible. If you leave the stadium you will not be permitted back into the game. Please bring jackets, blankets, and sweatshirts when you initially enter. • Footballs, soccer balls, and other athletic equipment is not permitted in the stadium and will be confiscated by staff. Throughout the Event: • Only coaches, players, officials, credentialed media, and game administrators are allowed inside the track and field area. • When cheering during the game, we ask that fans not stand on or jump upon the seating planks in the stands. • Good sportsmanship is positive encouragement and support for ALL athletes, performers, and officials. Unsportsmanlike conduct such as cheering against the opponent or officials, singling out specific student-athletes, foul language, booing, taunting, etc., may result in removal from the premises. • At the conclusion of the event, please leave the stadium and parking lots promptly.

The first Superintendent's Open Door Session of the 2023-2024 school year will take place from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the school system's office at 2424 Northgate Drive. Anyone who would like to meet with Superintendent Dr. Micah Stauffer about Wicomico County Public Schools may have up to 15 minutes, no appointment needed. The WiHi Athletics Department is in search for a Boys Tennis Head Coach, Girls Softball Head Coach, and a Girls Softball Assistant Coach! If you've ever wanted to be a member of the Tribe, now's the opportunity. Our student-athletes need dedicated coaches who can provide instruction to students of all skill levels and who can help them grow as young adults. Congratulations to our Boys Soccer program for getting it done on Senior Night! Coach Lowe showed his gratitude to Rasee Ahmed, Vanroj Barot, Hans Altema, and Ethan Petion during halftime of the Varsity game. Varsity won 5-3 with JV following up with 2-0 win. Great job boys!

Earlier this evening, our Girls Varsity Soccer team celebrated six wonderful student-athletes during their Senior Night. Thank you to Marilis Lopez, Daleska Ortiz, Martha Vasquez, Dianna Mendez, Mie'Aira Brewington, and Cinthia Romero for your dedication and commitment both on the field and in the classroom throughout your high school careers!
